OK, I know that I said I can’t stand the concept of guilt-free food—and I can’t. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying over-the-top desserts when you really, truly want them. Just check out the birthday cake I made myself last month while taking a class at Momofuku Milk Bar‘s Williamsburg production kitchen:
That thing is the picture of indulgence if ever there were one—it’s so tall, it requires a special cake box! (Fun side note: I’m actually in the process of making another cake from the Milk Bar cookbook for brunch this Sunday.) But just as it’s OK to enjoy even the richest of treats without guilt, there’s also nothing wrong with getting pleasure from a “light” dessert—particularly when you really like it and aren’t just eating it because you’re restricting yourself from having the non-diet version you actually want. Which brings me to the real topic of today’s post…Turkey Hill Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Light Ice Cream!
Today at work, we had a low-calorie ice cream taste test (I know…I can’t believe I get paid to do this stuff, either). Of the eight different types of ice cream available to sample, this was my favorite. It’s got a brown sugar- and molasses-flavored ice cream base with chunks of chocolate chips and chocolate chip cookie dough mixed in. It’s perfect for when you’re in the mood for something creamy and sweet but not cloyingly so—and it’s made with nonfat milk so it’s only 120 calories per half-cup serving. Here’s my artsy taste-test shot:
Several of my co-workers also gave this ice cream rave reviews. Do you have a favorite calorie-conscious treat (or a favorite non-diet one for that matter)? Please let me know about them—I’m always on the lookout for fun new desserts!
